Get to know me!
Hi! Im Shana, the photographer behind Shana Feeley Photography! I am a nerd in every meaning of that word. I love everything from Middle earth, Starwars to D&D. I collect dice and love to read. I currently shoot with a Canon r6 mii, my DJI drone & a cup of coffee is never to far away from me either.
Photography to me is about creating art & telling a story with my clients. I love working alongside you to capture moments and bring your dream sessions to life.
"Photography to me allows me to work with you to create art and tell stories together! I pour myself into my work and love having fun and being silly while still getting the photos we both want to create."
My journey into photography:
You may not know this about me but I was once a self taught fashion designer who owned a boutique in my home town. My biggest achievements as a designer where that I showed a collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion week and even made it to the last round of try outs for Fashion Star, a one season design show on bravo. I also took part in Fashion U four times in NYC during and right out of high school, a young design program that was a full week long run event by Teen Vogue. We got to meet with designers, learn about production of a collection and runway show, go to take classes about textiles and so much more! I loved the art of sewing!
My grandmother was a seamstress who taught me the basics of sewing and when I was in high school I really fell in love with fashion, I made a lot of my own clothes and altered those I didn't lol. I definitely stood out and often was made fun of for that but I have and always will be happy to be myself fully in every way I can. I know you're probably thinking okay, but what about photography? I promise I'm getting to there lol!! Anyways Right out of high school I opened my first boutique along the waters of lake Ontario. I ran my boutique for almost 7 years.
Eventually I made friends with local cosplayers so I started casually cosplaying. I started to fall out of love with sewing and design, and decided to close down my boutique for good in 2012. Truthfully I was struggling to find myself within my design work and sewing work and fell out of love with fashion, I don't think I really ever fit in and while I had some great achievements and talent I felt lost more than ever in that world.
I took to seamstress work of alterations and costume commissions to get by after I shut down my boutique, I did run an Etsy shop for other income. In 2018 my brother got married, I designed and sewed/altered kilts for him and his entire grooms mens for his wedding. He knew I wanted to get a simple camera to take photos of my designs for my Etsy shop. So as part of my payment for the wedding he and his wife got me my first ever camera! It was a Canon Rebel t6, a simple starter camera with a kit lens.
I began teaching myself how to use my camera and the art of photography and fell in love with photography in a way I have never known. Finally I felt like I found myself! Photography feels like a part of who I am in a way fashion design never did. I found my calling in life.
I stopped seamstress work a year after getting my first camera and did my first shoot shoot with my newly formed photography business Shana Feeley Photography in 2020.
I know!! My luck couldn't have been any worse, I finally found my meaning in life and boom covid lol. Thankfully I found I could do outdoor shoots and worked along lines of safety guides
to keep my photography business blooming. I am onto year five of my business being officially launched and year five of owning a camera. I don't really count that first year of 2019 because I only photographed friends and family for free while still teaching myself everything I could and didn't become an official business until 2020.
Today I am a full time fantasy and cosplay photographer. I also delve into other kinds of photography from time to time such as weddings, couples/family, fashion and boudoir.
My goal with my photography is to always produce the highest quality of work and provide more than just a photograph but an experience. I want your session to feel fun and special, to create art with you and help bring your dream photoshoot to life. You'll find my photography is both vivid and true to life with my color grading and a good mix of candid and posed photos. My style of photography is sharply focused photos that let the setting we work in and your costume or wardrobe shine through just as much as you do. I want the entire photo to tell a story!!
For me, photography is an art form. I aim to have every session from cosplay and fantasy to family photos or elopements be a magical and special and create custom works of art in photographs.
My editing process takes me around 1-2 hours per photo but this really allows me to make sure that your photographs are of the highest quality and everything you wish them to be! I am a stickler for perfection in a way I can create and I always want my clients to see and feel that in the work we do together!
